It’s Summer time here in the UK and what better way to celebrate than with an aptly themed set? The LEGO City Ice-Cream Shop (60363) set is perfect and encapsulates the very essence of Summer, Ice-Cream!

This 296 piece set is priced at £29.99, which to me is a little steep, it feels more like £24.99 or dare I say it ever cheaper still. For the part to price ratio it’s every high although it does come with 3 Minifigures and some accessories.

The Box & Contents:

The box is bright & colourful and full of life, with the standard City branding in the top-right corner and overall blue tint, you instantly know it’s a LEGO City set.

Inside the box you’ll find 3 numbered bags with 3 corresponding instruction manual. Also inside is a small sticker sheet and a couple of loose plates, including an L-shaped road plate.

The sticker sheet features some nice designs and ones I’d like to have in duplicate for future MOCs, perhaps a Bricklink order is required soon. I can imagine expanding on this set to make it bigger and include indoor seating and even a roof terrace.

With 4 stickers in total it’s not a lot, for such a small set though it’s enough. I’ll have to do some research but there must be other sticker sheets our there and fingers crossed printed pieces.

The Build:

What I particularly like about this set is the 3 separate instruction manuals, you can dish them out to family or friends at a party and each build a segment, pulling all 3 bits together at the end to reveal the finished product.

Bag 1 is more of an accessory pack as it constructs the a-frame menu, delivery bike, shop sign, foliage and other little bits. It also has you add the outside seating, or should that be seat, as there is only one table to sit at. On the table itself you’ll find a smoothie/milkshake and a gift all wrapped up, perhaps it’s someone’s birthday, with the added balloons it would make sense.

Bag 2 is the majority of the shop itself including the glass front and the drips that run past the door.

As you can see the top-layer is finished off with tiles and a few bare studs, this is to allow easy access to the inside once the roof is done and on, making it modular in some respects.

It all fits on the L-shaped roadplate rather quite nicely, the right side is squared off with transparent blue pieces whilst the right side has curves. I really like this style and would like to see more of it in future LEGO sets, it adds a new dimension to the build and it aesthetically pleasing.

Inside the shop you’ll find an area to serve Ice-Cream, the selection of flavours on offer, a mixing machine and refrigerator. It’s but the biggest of spaces but I think it’s utilised well, with the open back you can just about get bigger hands/fingers inside to position Minifigures and setup scenes.

Bag 3 is the roof complete with a giant Ice-Cream sign, this bag also finishes off the build. As mentioned before this section can be placed & removed very easily thanks to the handful of bare studs on the a shop portion of the build.

The roof itself is quite simple being a few plates held together with smaller plates and tiles. On top though is the cherry on the cake, or Ice-Cream in this case. A giant, dripping Ice-Cream sits atop the shop, letting passers by know exactly what’s on offer. The drips are especially cool and add so much more to the build, it’s definitely a nice touch!

Pop it all together and you have a fully fledged Ice-Cream Shop, complete with outdoor seating, menu & sign, flavours & items to choose from and some happy Minifigure characters to populate it.

If the price was a little less than £29.99 it would be a great deal, this is definitely a set to watch out for in the sales. Amazon Prime Day is almost upon us so have your eyes peeled for this set and any others that grab your fancy.

The Minifigures:

There are 3 included in the set, the a birthday Boy, a delivery Guy and the Star of the show a Polar Bear Mascot.

The Boy character features the fun yet seen many times before Banana torso, it’s a good torso to have so I’m not complaining. He comes with an Ice-Cream and Balloon accessory, short lavender (non posable) legs and a giant simple on his face.

The delivery Guy is one cool looking dude, with his stylish shades, funky dark purple top and teal trousers. I’ve personally not seen this particular torso before but it must have been in a previous set but I like it, it great and I’ll definitely use it for MOCs and Scenes!

He man’s the delivery bike that can also carry the child character above. Toegterh this is a very cool combination and one I happy to have in the collection.

This next Minifigure is most certainly the Star of the show, the Polar Bear Mascot. It comes complete with a brand new and unique head mould and printing, the torso isn’t bad either.

I absolutely love this Minifigure character and how it looks in general, it’s a perfect accompaniment to the whole Summer and Ice-Cream theme. Well perhaps not Summer as its a Polar Bear after all.

Overall the set is great, bar the price. At £29.99 I feel this is too much for a set with under 300 pieces, granded it has some nice parts and Minifigures but still a lower price tag would have done wonder for sales.

Minifigures are good and come with a very cool selection of parts, the Polar Bear Mascot is my personal favourite. The delivery Guy is my close second as I appreciate a good torso print.
