It’s almost the season to start working through the festive film collection before the big day hits, Christmas. There are some cracking movies to watch and get you in the spirit, some are right on the nose whilst others are more subtle, warm and cosy. Today’s LEGO Ideas feature is based on one such movie, a rom-com that not only hits the spot and makes you feel warm, it also translates well into LEGO form.

Introducing The Holiday: Rosehill Cottage!

Created by fan designer Martin_Studio, the build is one of the homes that gets swapped during the movie. The two main characters, played by Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz, long for a change and switch houses for the holidays, one from the glamorous US with a very contemporary mansion and the other from the UK who has a quaint cottage. It is the latter that has been portrayed here in LEGO bricks and it looks absolutely stunning.

The front of the Cottage is perfect and most definitely looks the part, with the masonry & soft-curved bricks, the pale blue windows, green door and snowy roof. I love hose this looks and that it stays true to the movie, obviously some elements are difficult to make out of LEGO but as quaint village Cottages go this is an awesome take on it.

With an open back style, just like the LEGO Winter Village Collection Holiday Main Street (10308) set, you can see into the building without anything to open or remove. Some fans like this style whilst others don’t, for me personally I’d rather have a full-on building with a front and back wall, enclosing it all. As a LEGO Ideas submission it deserves to be a standalone Cottage and more of a display piece rather than a playset.

Inside are a ton of details that reference the movie, from the kitchen area and where Kate Winslet character works, to bedroom and living room where more iconic scenes happen. It’s great to see small but extremely detailed builds inside a set of this size, it looks cramped but in a good way, it is a quaint Cottage after all.

The cottage features two floors. On the ground floor, I’ve recreated the living room and kitchen, where most of the action in the cottage takes place. This includes the memorable scene where Amanda first meets Graham, as well as the iconic moment when Iris speaks to Amanda on her laptop to arrange the house swap. – Martin_Studio

There are four Minifigures included in the submission, there are Amanda (Cameron Diaz), Graham (Jude Law), Iris (Kate Winslet) and Miles (Jack Black). Each Minifigure looks like their on-screen counterpart, complete with accessories that help paint the picture that a House swap is in progress.

In true LEGO style, the designer has made the wall and gate a separate side-build. Keeping the same accent colours as the Cottage, blues and greens, the small build looks great and is a welcomed part of the submission. It also comes with the name of the residence, Rosehill Cottage, on the gate itself. It wouldn’t be a picturesque British scene without Snow covering the wall and Cottage, so the added white LEGO elements work extremely well.

Overall the idea is outstanding, it looks the part, stays true to movies aesthetic and would make for an awesome LEGO set.
