A lot of LEGO Ideas entries share the same basic concept. Their based around a show or movie, or remakes of classic sets or clearly inspireed by previous successful entries. So today I’d love to pick out a rare gem that doesn’t follow this concept. Beaver Dam Balance Game by Brickster0404 is really original and I’d imagine it would make a fun LEGO set as well.

From just a set perspective or the building experience, this doesn’t look to be an advanced set. And to be honest, making a big advanced set is no guarantee that it is really good. Most Ideas sets sit pretty on a shelf and that’s about it. That’s absolutely not the case with this project. It’s a game that’s meant to be played with and can be enjoyed by both children and adults. The aim of the game is to have a beaver figure balancing on a pile of logs. These logs need to be removed without the beaver falling off. It kind of reminds of the JENGA game, but apparantly the inspiration comes from elsewhere.

After looking at the game Timberborn I decided I wanted a beaver city. But it became a completely different game: the game Log Jam by Ravensburger. Well not exactly, I also found a beaver balance game made from wood by another company.

In it’s current form the idea consists of 468 pieces and has 3 minifigures. It’s not specified in the entry if these other beavers have a purpose in more difficulty for the game or if they are only included for decoration. Neither if the game still works if it’s enlarged to add extra logs if you want a longer game or include extra players. Given the possibillities with LEGO I’m sure this will be no problem.

I’d say this balance game can provide a nice fun LEGO game for any game night. It would be amazing if this project made it to 10k supporters and becomes an actual set.
