Mark from @brick_beat here, with a very cool brick-built ‘1-UP‘ Mushroom. Firstly, a big thank you to YOUMKO for gifting me this set for review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I need to point out that this is not a LEGO set so there are some comparisons to be had when it comes to the instructions, building experience and the bricks themselves.
The Instructions:
The instructions are actually quite clear (PDF version is available on request) and broken down into steps, 216 in total really makes it easy to follow.
One negative point I will say is that I feel there should be a picture of the finished build somewhere on the instructions, on the front maybe instead it just has a set number. This is something small to pick on and I’m sure will get changed in the future.
After opening the packaging you are presented with bags of bricks.
Unfortunately the bags are not numbered so it is a case of organising out and finding pieces you need along the way.
The Bricks:
Well clearly they are not LEGO bricks but they really aren’t too bad for alternative branded pieces. I’ve definitely built with worse before!
Some bricks along the way were a little harder to build with compared to LEGO bricks so needed a little extra pressure when placing down and the clutch power was quite strong meaning if you made a mistake it was a little harder to correct. I’d definitely recommend having a brick separator to hand to help take anything apart when needed. Some bricks had minor discolouration and disfigurement in places but when we are comparing price with the top brand out there… you really have to accept what you pay for.
For me this didn’t change the overall look of the finished set and the build was still enjoyable.
The set itself actually had quite a unique building experience as you start the build from the bottom, adding brick by brick, layer by layer as you enjoy seeing the Mushroom come to life.
This is the green ‘1-UP Mushroom’ If you wanted the red ‘Power-Up’ this is also available for the same price.
The Price:
Value I feel is really good, coming in at £24.18 (at time of writing this), plus if you follow my link and use the coupon BRICKBEAT you will get a further 14% off your order. For little over £20 this set is a must have for any Mario fan!
