The list of LEGO Ideas submissions that have made it through to the next review stage keeps growing, with the latest one recreating the classic Japanese cartoon, My Neighbour Totoro!
The fan designer, Brickdusa, has made it through to the next Review Stage by hitting the required 10,000 supporters mark. Their design could be brought to life if chosen by the powers that be.
Not knowing a lot about the subject matter I’ll have to rely on Google for the background of it. The project is based on My Neighbor Totoro, a 1988 Japanese animated fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and animated by Studio Ghibli for Tokuma Shoten. It stars the voices of Noriko Hidaka, Chika Sakamoto and Hitoshi Takagi, and focuses on two young sisters and their interactions with friendly wood spirits in postwar rural Japan. The main part of the build is Catbus, a fictional character that is a large, grinning, twelve-legged cat with a large bushy tail and a hollow body that serves as a bus, with windows and seats covered with fur.

“MMMMRAAAAAOOO” – Catbus
I am utterly delighted to present to you Catbus from the 1988 Studio Ghibli animated film My Neighbor Totoro – Brickdusa
Brickdusa has done a wonderful job in capturing the characters, the Catbus, and the story telling behind it all. Fans of both the film and LEGO would love to get their hands on this set if it were real. Unfortunately reaching the required goal of 10,000 supporters doesn’t guarantee it’ll be made into a real-life LEGO set, but there is hope for fans as the LEGO Ideas team will debate on and choose which sets will be lucky enough to make it through sometime next year – we wish Brickdusa the best of luck in the next stage.
