When a LEGO City set comes along that represents the LEGO Group, it’s a must have – being a LEGO delivery van is an added bonus!
A couple of years ago LEGO released a large, Delivery Truck set. It was great apart from one thing, it was long, too long in fact, that it would span almost two Modular buildings. Whilst this might be true in real-life, in the world of LEGO and City builders, it looks out of place. My City (Gregsville) is a decent size but if I had the larger truck it would take up a whole street. So when LEGO revealed the scaled down version, I knew they were onto a winner.
On my recent visit to the flagship store in Leicester Square, London, I managed to grab the set. When I got home I built it immediately, I was that excited for it, I just couldn’t wait any longer. Continue reading our short but sweet review of the LEGO Van (60500).

The box features traditional LEGO City branding, with bright images and matching backgrounds. On the front is the Van itself along with the two Minifigures and accessories, flip the box over and you’ll see the play features and more. Inside are 3 numbered bags, a 2×16 plate, and instruction manual.
Cracking the bags open the first thing that hits you are four small printed LEGO set tiles. In my opinion, and many other AFOLs, every set should have printed elements, we hate stickers! Just look at the glorious prints below, 2 LEGO logos in 2×2 tiles, 2 larger tiles with Bricks, and the 4 LEGO set tiles, amazing.

The build process is short but enjoyable, it does only have 276 pieces after all. From the first bag, which is the base of the vehicle, to the last, it went together well and at no point were there any tricky bits, the age on the box is 6+, I’d say due to the Technic elements of the two roof hinges it’s more suited to 7/8+. But with a little help from older fans it’ll go together nicely.
The first two bags built the base, front, and back of the Van, it’s only in the last bag that the middle section is built. Both sides can be lifted to access the insides, which houses the pallet full of LEGO sets. The pallet is held in place with 1×1 round tiles, simply wedging the pallet in place for easy in & out action.

The two included Minifigures are great, both share the same torso design but their trousers and genders are different. The female working has her hair tied back and light blue legs, while the male worker had black wavy hair and dark tan legs. I really like when LEGO include worker-style characters, it opens the door to more varied Minifigures in your display or City, these will definitely be placed in Gregsville, unloading a very important delivery of LEGO sets.

The overall build it’s great, it didn’t feel rushed or tricky at any point, infact it was rather enjoyable. From the first bag to the last, it was a pleasure to see it all come together, the printed elements are definitely top of my list, especially this LEGO logo tiles!
