LEGO Batman has always been a reliable theme and one that rarely disappoints, from its first ever set in 2006 up until the latest incarnation of the caped crusader, The Batman, it’s a child and adult friendly theme that captures the essence of DC!

So when the new wave was released I’d thought I’d give it a go and what better way to do it than with an entry level LEGO set. The most affordable way to get ahold of Robert Pattinson‘s Batman is from The Batman & Selina Kyle Motorcycle Pursuit (76179).

As usual I built this whilst live on our Instagram account, which is a great way to interact with followers and to showoff the set from start to finish. Please head over to our Instagram page and follow us to never miss the latest LEGO related news, reviews and more!

The Box & Contents:

For such a small set it does cram a lot into the box art, with the two characters, their motorcycles, Bat signal, and more. Along with the background image the whole thing looks pretty decent, the back of the box is the same and is in keeping with the front, just a different setup.

Pop the tab and crank open the box and you’ll find two sets of instructions, two numbered bags and a very small sticker sheet.

It’s quite refreshing to get two manuals as it allows you to build with a friend or family member. Granted they’re for the two different motorcycles but at least you can enjoy the experience together. The ultimate decision is who gets this character!

The Build:

The build isn’t very involved as you’d expect from a small set that only consists of 149 pieces. There are two brick-built motorcycles that The Batman & Selina Kyle ride, and they’re both really chunky looking bikes!

If this set had the 4+ age branding then I’d understand why the motorcycles are so cumbersome but it’s not and we deserve better. Whilst building Batman’s bike you get to the part where the oversized front part is clipped into the bike itself, if you simply left that part off the bike would look so much better and more in keeping with the aesthetic of The Batman, perhaps a modification is in need.

Seline Kyle’s bike is better looking and slightly more streamline compared and again suits the whole look of Batman with bare studs showing and generally being more ‘stripped’ back and machine-like.

There is a smaller side build included in the form of a new Bat Signal that not only looks cool but also loosely functions as a light thanks to the glow-in-the-dark round tile. The transparent Bat logo sticker that lays on it looks really smart and finishes the whole Signal build off!

The Minifigures:

Accompanying the builds are two Minifigures, The Batman and Selina Kyle (Cat Woman). Getting them both in a very affordable set is great and an awesome way to get your hands on the new Batman character!

Both have really good printing especially on The Batman himself, as he has decent leg prints too.

I must admit that I have yet to watch the new incarnation of Batman on the big screen so I can’t really comment on his attire, if it’s accurate or not. But what I can say is it looks very badass and he sure does mean business, with the multiple buckles, straps, flaps, and the iconic Bat symbol on his chest, it looks amazing.

Selina Kyle’s Minifigure on the other hand is a little disappointing and only features a torso print, don’t get me wrong it’s great to have her in the collection but LEGO skimped on the design somewhat.

The good thing about both Minifigures is the fact they not only come with alternative faces, they come with extra hair and headgear. Great touch by LEGO and this certainly does regain some of the points from earlier.

The Batman also comes with an extra head, that’s right, a whole other head can be swapped out for when he is unmasked, which I take it happens at some point in the movie?

The Conclusion:

Overall LEGO The Batman & Selina Kyle Motorcycle Pursuit (76179) is basic but makes for a good entry level set for new fans to the theme.

The main pull of the set is most certainly the two Minifigures, The Batman and Selina Kyle. They have good printed elements and The Batman especially looks cool!

Both bikes are hideous and are far too bulky for their own good. Great for breaking down afterwards and using the parts in MOCs.

A great redeeming feature is the included brick-built Bat Signal with its round glow-in-the-dark tile and Bat logo sticker. It seemed to work really well when I turned off the lights during my Instagram live stream!

For the price of £12.99 it is a bit of a let down and a little over what I’d usually pay for this type of set, it would have made more sense for it to be around £9.99. I did pick this up from Amazon at a reduced price so I can’t really grumble.

We’d only recommend this set for those of you that collect Minifigures, especially if you can get it reduced.
