If there’s one area of a City that gets overlooked the most, it has to be the Beach. Many bricks brands produce modulars and minibuilds that fit into a Cityscape, such as Hotels, Police Stations, Jazz Clubs, Cinemas, and so many more, but no Beach related sets. That is until LumiBricks came along with the Surf Shop!
This 1,752 piece set is perfect for fans that need a Beach orientated set in their City or display. It sits on a baseplate size of 32×38, a lot bigger than I expected, and comprises of a Surf Shop called Tide & Tiki, a roof terrace with stage, and a small beach area. It also comes with 4 figures, a Surfer girl, a beach buff, a store clerk and an entertainer. It was a pleasure to put together and with only 9 numbered bags the construction moved at a great pace.

Inside the brightly design led and engaging box, you’ll find an rather chunky instruction manual, 9 numbered bags, 2 F bags (figures and cable bricks), baseplates, and a cool printed backdrop piece. The instruction manual always overwhelms me at first, just the sight of this almost 1″ inch thick beast got me thinking this will take absolutely ages to build and be of an expert level – but that wasn’t the case, it went together easily and was very straightforward.
Cracking the very first bag open and piecing the base together, you see just how big the foot print will be. When I fordt saw the image online I thought “hey, that s small enough to fit into my Cities beach area…” but how wrong I was, granted my beach isn’t very big, but still this thing takes up a lot of space, and sadly won’t be going in my City. This however doesn’t make it a bad set, at all – quite the opposite actually. It’s one of the better sets I’ve build in a while and like I mentioned above, you don’t see many Beach related sets.

Building up the Surf Shop as you go, adding exterior walls, interior details, and of course the cables for the lights, which come as standard. Thanks to the patented bricks, LumiBricks is the king of sets with lights. Having these new elements is a godsend, truly, as you no longer need to squash cables between bricks and hope they don’t break, you simply follow the very detailed instructions and safely lay each cable in the correct channel and bosh, let there be light!
Once the Surf Shop itself is done you make a start on the roof terrace, which has a cool angled front. Adding a small bar area, stocked with drinks, a seating area for guests to sit, and a fully functional stage complete with printed backdrop.
Being the last couple of bags, this section goes together real fast. Most of it is side builds that you attached to the roof base after construction. The stage area is where the magic happens as the lights flicker and the party really gets going.

Outside on the beach, you’ll find two red & white striped sunloungers, an umbrella, a hatch to order Ice Cream, and a large palm tree. The water is done in a creative way, with the use of transparent elements to create rolling waves and seafoam. The palm tree is both good and bad – the trunk is made using those tree pieces seen in classic Pirate sets that you clip together, the top however is where it falters. The issue is a lack of leaf pieces, with just 3 per bar the tree looks bare and you can see the bendy bars which takes away from the ‘realism’.
All that being said, the set was a joy to put together, the bricks clicked nicely, the lights do that thing, and the overall aesthetic is awesome – my favourite part are the flashing disco lights!
