Hi everyone, Brick McBricksworth here with a review from a company that is new to myself at The Brick Post. This one right from opening the box looks like it will be a fun build and looks fantastic!

I know Greg (the boss) has built Pantasy sets before and had nothing but good things to say about them. Now he gave me the chance to find this out for myself first hand.

  • Set number 85022
  • Price $149.99

Box Art:

The box is very well presented and printed well with a nice picture of the build on the front and a nice pirate map style look on the back with smaller pictures depicting other key parts in the set.

Inside the box:

I was surprised just how cram packed with pieces this box was. It was a large box of parts and it was very full! Good times!!!
There is two instruction booklets with the set, numbered bags, minifigs, a plastic sail and one single sticker…

The sticker, I will let these guys off with. Although later in the build it does go over a couple of pieces it looks really good and is holographic looking! But it works and PAD printing on the parts it is would have been tough to achieve the look.

The instruction book is well presented and has the usual clear and easy to see what types of parts are required and easy to see where they go. There was however some confusion from myself as the two styles of brown look too similar and don’t match well in the book. That aside it was fine once you get into the swing of it.

There is 14 main bags in total each of these has two or three minor bags within the main numbered bag.

The figures:

The minifigs are quite cute. At first I didn’t feel like I liked them too much as they look too cutesy to be in a big rough and tumble pirate set. But these figs started to grow on me. They look like a mix of what you would get if you got a LEGO minifigure and mixed it with a Playmobil figure (kind of). The first time my daughter saw these figs she said “ooh these look neat!” So they got the seal of approval there!

The build:

The build starts with you making the main base. Rocks sea and such. Then you move swiftly on to the early stages of the bottom part of the building and interior for the main pub. There is a clever few stages where you build a wall on hinges which comes in handy later as it can be used to see inside as when finished this is modular so not an open back build.

There are good brick built details in the main pub part of a fireplace and some tables with bits and bobs on them (lots of rum bottles too).

As the build progresses there are some really nice techniques to build the front portion of the building and the roof of that part. There is even a cheeky cute hidden rat in the loft of the front of the building.

I really liked the use of simple parts to make a complex look…

You soon get to build a front of a boat bar for on the first floor there is some great use of parts in this in particular the placement of the octopus is really well done.

As the pictures show there are many little quirky parts to this build as it progresses. I liked the rock skull and the massive Rum bottle most I think.

In the second book it is time to build another room for the first floor which is sort of like a dining room area and it has it’s own kitchen and massive table full of food with more rum bottles. This all pops together with a few studs so is easy to take off as full parts to allow play in the lower levels.

Finally you are building the back of a boat on the very top part of the pub this contains the bedroom (presumably the bedroom of the captain/landlord). The techniques in this part were possibly the best parts of the set overall.

Build quality and ratings:

The bricks click together well and have a nice amount of clutch power. The parts feel like they are of a really high quality.

  • Build quality 9/10
  • Look of the model 9/10
  • Instructions 7/10 A Small tweak on the colours printed and this would score well.
  • Part selection/colour choice 9/10
  • Overall a solid 8.5/10.

I really enjoyed this build I would love to see them attempt a pirate ship /galleon maybe in the future. Pirates always seem to have a popular following. This model would be an amazing addition to anyone who collects pirates
