Ai, it’s still a touchy subject, either you love it or you hate it, but it does have its uses. If you intend to have a bit of fun with it and not take it too seriously, it’s a great way to experiment with a new medium that you couldn’t do before. Stop Motion is an awesome skill to have and done properly can take years to get a grasp of and perfect. Computer-generated Imagery has also be a staple of modern film making but again takes a lot of time to master. So when NaukNauk (pronounced Knock Knock) approached me to try their new app, I jumped at the chance!

It mixes Social Media and Ai to create a community of like-minded people that love bringing their photographs to life. It’s quick, simple and very effective – perfect for those that don’t have the time, confidence or patience to learn how to animate, like me.

The team behind it are passionate about what they do and how they do it, and it shows. The app itself has come along way since it was first released just over a month ago. Starting off with a very simple user interface, select a photo, tell it what to animate and wait for it to finish. A month on and there have been many updates, including a whole new feature where to select both the start and end images, great for telling a story.

It’s the ‘Bring Image to Life‘ option I tend to use, it’s perfect for what I want to create, one off scenes and self contained stories. My very own Sigfig, Lil’ G, features heavily in my content, my latest post is him enjoying a new vinyl record he just found, from a photo I took many months ago.

Once you’ve chosen the image you’d like to animate, you then input the prompts for both scene and character movement and camera instructions. I’ve learn that it’s best to think of everything in the scene that you want to move or interact with the main character. Don’t skimp on the details as that’s when Ai will just make it up and the end result won’t be any good. An example of a decent prompt should include the character you want to move, where they should move to, how they should move there and their facial expression. Here’s an example:

The LEGO Minifigure’s hands move quickly and efficiently across the keyboard, and his head nods slightly as if in concentration. He has a content smile in his face.

That’s the hard work out the way, simply choose the duration and quality and hit ‘Animate‘. Sit back and relax whilst Ai does the rest. The time varies when processing, but after a few minutes your creation should be ready. If you are happy with the outcome then you can add music and audio effects or simply publish with out it, it’s entirely up to you. The audio is often Ai generated too and in my opinion is the better choice – it matches the scene almost perfectly. If you do need to tweak it then click ‘retry‘ and change the prompt. The time may state 5 seconds but it usually last the full 10 seconds if that’s what you selected.

Just like other social media platforms, you can add a title, caption and publish the final result for the world to see! Hashtags aren’t required or even a thing, so you don’t have to worry about them. Options are being added on a weekly basis with the recent additions of ‘edit‘ and ‘delete‘, ‘download‘ is an option too and great if you want to publish on other social media platforms like TikTok or Instagram.

Like unsaid before, Ai is a touchy subject with some people hating on it whenever they get the chance, regardless if you apply the ‘Ai generated‘ information some social media platforms require. I feel NaukNauk is purely for fun and if used properly can become a tool for the better, what I’ve seen produced using it is amazing. Seeing static photographs spring to life is magical and brightens my day a little. People’s creativity has no bounds and this app helps those that perhaps can’t or couldn’t produce short animations themselves!

  1. I can’t get it to work. Do you have to pay for something for the duration button to be accessed? I’m on an iPhone 15. No matter what I try it will not create. It continues to say select duration. Well how exactly can I select it when it’s covered? Is that what you have to pay for? It would be nice if you had a tutorial for new users!!!

    1. Hi Melanie, that’s a strange glitch indeed, I personally haven’t encountered it. The team at NaukNauk are very good at customer service via their Instagram account, here https://www.instagram.com/nauknauk.io/

In the past we’ve had to tap on a blank part of the screen to remove the keyboard which then exposes the buttons you need to access. We believe the app is still in early stages and does have a glitch or two. I suggest reaching out to NaukNauk on Instagram and asking them.

      Thank you for reaching out.
