With the ever increasing prices of LEGO sets, we ask if the recently announced LEGO Icons French Café (10362) is worth it?

The new Icons subtheme, Restaurants of the World, has been introduced and the first set in the series (we presume it will be a series) is the French Café. There has been mixed reviews from fans about both the cost and the overall look. When you immediately see the sweet French Café decor and lush details you think “this is exciting and new“, but upon further inspection there is very little going on inside with barely enough room to fit the details that are included. The reverse is even worse, it’s essentially a blank flat wall – a closed wall rather than an open-back.

This may be a personal feeling but over the last couple of years LEGO has priced me and a lot of fans either out of the hobby or reduced the number of sets bought. The same goes for the French Café, when seeing the price tag, £69.99/$79.99/79.99€, some are instantly turned off and are no longer interested. The 1,101 piece count helps and honestly isn’t too bad (price to part ratio), but take in to consideration that a chunk of that goes into the plinth alone and it doesn’t quite feel enough.

The small fraction of building you get for the money doesn’t feel good value when compared to modulars and other open-backed sets. A small shop front for £70, I’ll pass!
