Hi folks, Stuart from @mcbricksbricks here, today I bring you a review on the latest Pantasy set – the Stained Glass Table Lamp (85042)!

This is the first Pantasy set I have seen with lighting, so lets see how that goes as we already know from my previous reviews there are light kit brands already out there. Firstly my thanks to Pantasy for sending this set over for me to review on behalf of The Brick Post. To get 10% off this set or any others from Pantasy.com, please us THEBRICKPOST during checkout.

We start the review with the instructions, as always. The design of the manual is well laid out and very easy to understand, it is coming to a point now where alternative brands are on par with the leading brand.

Cracking open bag 1, you make a start with the base of the lamp, which is mostly used to hide the USB box that powers the light. Being a large block itself it’s quite quick to build around. Next you move on to the body of the lamp, I would like to say this bit was good but the way the decorative pieces attach to it is quite flimsy despite it looking good it has weak connection points. It’s almost like you build round pieces on an axle all the way up with a few studs at points to attach the outer shell on to it. As I say it looks great but don’t hold it hard or it will crumble in your hands.

While building the body you are internally feeding the one light cable up through it. This then attaches to the 4x LED lights and you build it into an old looking bulb – clever idea really. You then build a small Technic style frame up over the bulb and then sort of an upside-down umbrella to start the main lampshade build.

There are some very nice printed pieces included in the lamp set, the shade comprises of pretty much all stained glass translucent pieces (has to be really or it wouldn’t light up like a lamp). These stages are very repetitive to say the least but if you like builds that don’t take much thinking and are rinse & repeat style, then you’ll like this build. I really like the Dragonfly builds that attach on to the lampshade (another rinse & repeat, as you build 4x of these).

All in all a nice idea that looks great when built. But don’t be moving it around too much or you’ll have to keep repairing it. The light isn’t bright enough to light a room by any means as the LEDS are just 4x tiny bulbs. It looks nice as a backup lamp though and does give a dark room a nice ambience.

Now for the scores:

  • Instructions 8 out of 10
  • Display appeal 9out of 10
  • Build experience is a 7 out of 10
  • Durability 6 out of 10

I give this one a respectable 7 out of 10. Although the build was great to look at when done and has a very nice selection of parts and prints. It isn’t one for a builder looking for a challenge nor is it stable enough for a young child to build. If you are new to installing lights however this is possibly the easiest build to have a light kit with it.

I really hope you have enjoyed this review, please be sure to check this one out it really was a massive and enjoyable set to build.
