LumiBricks, the only brand that comes close to LEGO – wait, let me rephrase that – LumiBricks, the only brand that does it better than LEGO!
That’s right, you heard me, LumiBricks have every base covered, literally. From Castles, to Beach builds, Cars to Steampunk, and of course Modulars. We have had the privilege of building a number of the brands buildings, including the Record Store, Boxing Club, and today’s review, the Barbershop. Each of the mentioned sets have a very similar architectural style, three storys that get gradually smaller the taller it gets.

The box art is stunning and represents the set inside well, with bright colours and an insight of what to expect the finished build will be like and the play features. With a total of 15 numbered bags, 3 chunky instruction manuals and of course the infamous orange light kit box.
I have found myself, upon opening these boxes, to sort through the bags to get them in numerical order, an obvious practice I know but one I find necessary as there are multiple bags for each stage – for example, bag 1 comprises of 3 or 4 individual bags. Once in order I place them back in the box stood up, ready for easy pickings when needed. It’s also advised to check the lights work before commencing, but I rarely do, I’m too eager to get building.

The first lot of bags build the lovely tiled baseplate, which is always a treat, as well as the whole of the ground floor. As you’d expect this floor is the Barbershop itself, complete with swivel chairs, mirrors, tools, a sofa, and a plethora of themed accessories. Outside the building you’ll find a chequered entrance way, a bench, an alleyway with awesome graffiti and stairs up to the first floor.
I’ll admit that I hadn’t looked at what the other floors were beforehand so this came as a complete surprise. Situated above the Barbershop is an office, this belongs to the Lawyer that works there. Inside are again a bunch of themed minibuilds including a computer and desk, filing cabinet, book shelf and a photocopier. Off to the side is a small ping pong table, if the Lawyer needs a break he can have a quick game of table tennis.

Moving on up to the second floor you’ll find an apartment, complete with a bed, TV with changeable channels, a separate toilet, and again accessories you’d find in an apartment. There is a very small balcony with ladder access to the roof, which is a whole bag or 2 itself.
Throughout the build, especially the top two floors, you’ll have a somewhat repetitive build experience as the piles running down each side areuse the same elements to crested the unified patterned architecture. It’s a very clever build and from the outside looks like a generic modular building. The floors can be removed to access the inside areas, but that’s now all. The ground floor swings open which then allows the front of the upper floors to open too. It’s easier if we show you, check out the photo below for the fully opened Barbershop set. But wait there’s more, once open you can then slide out each floor to setup scenes or to take photographs, how epic is that?!

Another feature that is a staple for all LumiBricks sets, are the lights. These are hidden away thanks to the brands patented bricks and plates which have special channels in them to safely hide and protect the cables – genius!
Unfortunately a cable broke when I was attaching it to the set, but don’t fret if this happens to you, LumiBricks have you covered and will send out a replacement free of charge. Believe it or not this is the first time this has happened, and we’ve had almost 20 sets from the brand, that is really good going.
What sets LumiBricks apart from others and more importantly third party light kit brands, is the way the lights are installed. Thought the build you are prompted to install special bricks, which will lay way for the cables and LEDs as you build – no backing back and dismantling the set to insert cables.

Overall the LumiBricks Barbershop is a stunning looking set and an even more enjoyable build. As brick-built Modulars go this is one of the best I’ve ever built, alongside the LumiBricks Record Store. What makes the deal even sweeter is our 10% off code THEBRICKPOST, which you use during checkout at LumiBricks.com.
