LEGO Pokémon has officially been unveiled but within hours pre-orders had already sold-out, along with the GWP!
The hugely popular and worldwide phenomenon known as Pokémon, has finally come to the biggest block-based brand, LEGO. Kicking off the first wave with three sets, unveiled yesterday, they were largely met with good comments from fans, despite one costing £579.99/$649.99. These instantly went on pre-order, just like other LEGO sets do, but this time a gift with purchase set accompanied it, marking a first for LEGO. The free set in question was the Kanto Region Badge Collection (40892), a great looking gift especially as it was free when you purchased the larger LEGO Pokémon set.

This is where the online comments took a turn for the worst, concerning the high price, availability, and the scalpers that were ‘catching’ em all‘ and listing them on eBay for ridiculously high prices. Scalping isn’t new, especially to the world of LEGO, with many sought-after GWPs being sold for a lot more than they are worth. In some cases this is fine as fans have the right to sell the sets they don’t want, making the overall cost a bit less. The prombel here is that scalpers have got hold of multiple sets and now listing them and the GWPs for almost double. This is an issue LEGO need to take seriously and do something about, before it gets more out of hand. How they would go about limiting the damage done by scalpers is a tricky one, what would you do?
The LEGO Pokémon sets officially release 27th February 2026, if the gift with purchase set returns is anyone’s guess, but with at least two months to prepare we would presume so. For those interested, both Eevee (72151) and Pikachu and Poke Ball (72152) are still available to pre-order, but unfortunately don’t qualify for the free gift.
