Now for something a little different but very interesting!

8 different models to make!

Klutz have revealed a new STEM-focused LEGO book coming later this year, entitled LEGO Gear Bots.

The book combines LEGO elements and papercraft  to build simple ‘moving’ models.

Klutz have published numerous educational books, some featuring LEGO. This book will combine it with papercraft elements, which you simply ‘pop’ out of the book along the perforated edges.

Consisting of 64 LEGO elements and 10 sheets of paper parts, this book will allow you to construct 8 different models.

LEGO Gear Bots will be published sometime in August.

*Edit* Book is available now!

Official details:

Build STEM-driven models, such as DJ Bubbles (an octopus spinning records), a pterodactyl, a yeti, and much more! Kinetic sculptures, or automata, are mechanically engineering toys that move when you crank the handle on the side. They move through a series of axles, cams, and cranks that work like the pistons in an engine. Each model includes a papercraft character that you fold and link with LEGO elements.

Comes with: 64-page book of ideas and inspiration, 62 LEGO® elements, 10 sheets of papercraft.

  1. DO you know if you will have to take the previous automaton apart to make a new automaton or can you actually make 8 different automata with this kit?

    1. I would assume there’s enough bricks and pieces to make just one at a time. Although the Paper creatures are all different you’d have to alter the LEGO structure each time to suit.

  2. Klutz Chain Reactions and Klutz Gadgets which were released prior to this set also had paper parts, so the article mentioning that this is the first could possibly be incorrect. Please rectify it.

    1. Thank you for the heads up, edited the article to suit 👍🏻
