With the F1 world being stunned by some spectacular driver rumours, it’s on this day LEGO is unveiling some awesome F1 themed sets. The sets will be spread over multiple themes, Icons, Technic and of course also Speed Champions. The sets are in partnership with McLaren, The Senna Foundation, and Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS and will be releasing as part of the March 2024 wave of new sets.

McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna (10330)

This might just be the most popular F1 set LEGO has done so far. Before Max Verstappen broke the records in 2023 the 1988 Mclaren MP4/4 was the most succesful car in F1 history. Driven by Ayrton Senna (3x World Champion) and Alain Prost (4x World Champion). So it is only fitting this car is treated like this with an amazing Icons display set. I would have liked figures for both drivers included however.

Another fun easter egg is how the colours of Senna’s helmet design are incorporated on the inside of the sidepods. The set consists of 693 pieces and will have a RRP of $/€79.99

2023 McLaren Formula 1 Car (76919)

With the long standing partnership between LEGO and McLaren it’s no surprise a recent F1 car from the team is coming to Speed Champions. The driver gets a nice Mclaren logo printed but there’s no specific mention of this being either Norris or Piastri. They both did well in the car so that shouldn’t really matter. Being a Speed Champions set there is the traditional sticker overdose, which is a bit of a shame. On the bright side there are some nice part usages like the spoons for mirrors. With the tiny mirrors and dazzling speeds this might be considered a quite fitting choice, since drivers don’t really get much use out of them anyways.

The set consists of 245 pieces and will be sold for £20.99/$26.99/€26.99.

Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 Pull-Back (42165)

This will be the first time LEGO releases a F1 model that will be faster than the original. I’m not being a hater but drivers and management have been very harsh about the speed of this car themselves, it’s a surprise it gets not 1 but 2 LEGO Technic sets. It is a recent car that still got second in the championship, but to have 1 or both of the Mercedes sets based on a different year and car would have made sense. You want to celebrate your dominant years, not the hard times. Still the models look quite fun, with this pull-back car being a nice toy as well. The pull-back set will consist of 240 pieces and have a RRP of £20.99/$26.99/ €26.99.

Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance (42171)

So this is a more detailed version of the car above. This is reflected in a piece count of 1.642 with a price of £189.99/$219.99/€219.99.

Even a detailed model of a V6 engine is part of this build, including a quite realistic suspension.

BMW M4 GT3 & BMW M Hybrid V8 Race Cars (76922)

After all the F1 announcements we get some endurance racecars as well, with the current WEC/IMSA BMW Hypercar and GT3 in one set. Like the other speed Champions set, this has two unnamed drivers. This set will consist of 676 pieces and will be on the shelves for £44.99/$44.99/€49.99.

So what do you think of these sets? Is your heart racing to pick them up at your local dealer? Share your thoughts in the comments!
