One of the latest designs to gain the required 10,000 supporters at LEGO Ideas is based on the Easter Island statues called Moai!

The design and build is by BRICKUP and features a trio of brick-built statues known as Moai. The massive monolithic statues were carved from volcanic rock by the Rapa Nui people on Easter Island (Rapa Nui) in the southeastern Pacific Ocean. Carved primarily between 1250 and 1500 AD, the nearly 900 figures are believed to represent deified ancestors who watched over their communities.

The real-life statues stand a staggering 4 metres tall and weigh around 12.5 tons – luckily the LEGO equivalents don’t match those proportions. They do however take a lot of their design, shape, curves and awesomeness from the rock carvings. Using light grey pieces to match the rock colours, the angled back heads with giant features look great.

In a world where imagination meets reality, a fantastic set of bricks brings to life the enigmatic moai statues of Rapa Nui – BRICKUP

Each one can be removed from the display plinth and even rotated by the looks of it. On the plinth itself there are printed tiles that say what the stones are and the location to where they are in the form of longitude and latitude. The idea looks great and one many LEGO fans would like to get their hands on, it’s the perfect display piece. I think the overall look is fantastic and brings something very different to the LEGO Ideas table, I’d even pop these in my LEGO City if given the chance.

Unfortunately reaching the required goal of 10,000 supporters doesn’t guarantee it’ll be made into a real-life LEGO set, but there is hope for fans as the LEGO Ideas team will debate on and choose which sets will be lucky enough to make it through sometime next/this year – we wish BRICKUP the best of luck in the next stage.
