Build the upcoming Lightning McQueen set (LEGO Speed Champions) a friend, Tow Mater from Cars!
The talented builder, BesbasDesign, has designed a stunning MOC (my own creation) of the goofy-looking but totally awesome Tow Mater. The character is taken straight out of the hit Disney/Pixar movie franchise Cars. A story about anthropomorphic vehicles that features the main characters Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater. The loveable tow truck is best known as Lightning McQueen’s best friend, who is a kind-hearted, optimistic, and loyal character who owns Tow Mater’s Towing & Salvage in Radiator Springs. Mater is a central figure in the Cars films, the protagonist of the Cars 2 sequel, and the main character of the Cars Toons: Mater’s Tall Tales series.
Comprising of 413 pieces, the MOC by BesbasDesign looks just like it’s on-screen counterpart, with the rusty brown chassis, big windscreen eyes and goofy teeth. It is based on 8 studs wide, which is perfect for displaying next to other LEGO Speed Champions sets, including the Lightning McQueen one due out January 2026.
There looks to be some great building techniques used throughout and with just a handful of bare studs showing it looks smooth and polished. I particularly like the overall shape of the vehicle and it would definitely be on my list of builds to do in the future, especially displayed alongside Lightning McQueen. The big eyes, the ‘Tow Mater‘ sign on the doors, the tow truck hook at the back and the iconic rusty aesthetic looks so good in LEGO form.
The design can be found on the creators Rebrickable account, where you’ll also find the PDF instructions which cost just €6.50, a bargain at that price. You’ll need to source the parts yourself, but thanks to Rebrickable‘s built-in part finder it’s easy and straightforward.
