With the Artemis II mission underway, we thought it was apt to share some of the currently available and long retired LEGO Space themed sets – to get inspired and building!
For those that don’t know, Artemis II is a lunar flyby mission under the Artemis program. Launched from Kennedy Space Center on April 1, 2026, the ten-day mission is intended to carry NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, along with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen, on a free-return trajectory around the Moon and back to Earth. It is the second flight of the Space Launch System (SLS), the first crewed mission of the Orion spacecraft, and the first crewed mission beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17 in 1972.
There have been many LEGO sets inspired by Space and what lies beyond our world, some have even been based on past NASA crafts such as the Saturn V and Discovery Shuttle. Many smaller sets have graced the shelves of LEGO and Toy Stores too, here is a selection of them, including those still available and ones that have long since retired.
Just imagine the future of LEGO, NASA, and Space sets, with the Artemis III and IV missions happening in the coming years. Artemis III is planned to be the second crewed mission of the NASA-led Artemis lunar exploration program. The mission’s objectives are to conduct tests in low Earth orbit with one or both commercially developed lunar landers — SpaceX’s Starship HLS and Blue Origin’s Blue Moon — and the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU) space suit. In this respect, the mission is comparable to Apollo 9 in the Apollo program. As of April 2026, NASA expects Artemis III to launch in 2027.
Artemis IV is planned to be the third crewed mission and first lunar landing of the NASA-led Artemis program, marking the first crewed landing on the Moon since Apollo 17 in 1972. It will be the first mission to use the standardized configuration of the Space Launch System (SLS), with a Centaur V upper stage in place of the Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage (ICPS) flown on the previous SLS launches. The SLS will send an Orion spacecraft carrying the astronaut crew members to lunar orbit.
