Howdy folks, Stu here from McbricksBricks, and today I bring you a review on the latest Pantasy set – The Western Mine 85025!

First things first, set details: Set number 85025, over 3,000 pieces, RRP is around £120/$150. It also comes with a motor.

My thanks to Pantasy for sending this set over for me to review for The Brick Post. This new product from Pantasy is right up my street, I love all things Wild West. This is the first in a new line from them in the theme, which I hope they continue. To grab your very own set, please use our affiliate link and code THEBRICKPOST during checkout to get 10% off.

We start the review with the instructions. They were laid out really well and very easy to understand, even though on the Pantasy website it shows this as ‘legendary‘ difficulty. Colour of pieces on print to actual colours wasn’t too bad either for this set, some instructions are hard to distinguish colour differences. – that includes the Danish brand.

Building was a layer experience in the way that there is a lot of slope rock pieces in the set (lot’s of rocks, it is a mine after all). Some may see this as a repetitive build but I found it therapeutic if anything. There is not much in the way of mirrored building etc. It’s all quite unique. Early on in the build you install a motor which is connected to a conveyor belt. This sends little gold balls on their journey around the set, that eventually slide back down into the circular pit at the bottom. That’s right you guessed it this is a marble run set.

The pit at the bottom mentioned above is a really nice design of 1×2 bricks and 1×1 round bricks this creates a circle once complete and looks really good (no it isn’t an illegal building technique I checked).

There is a lot of rock decoration also on the lower level to hide the mechanism of the ball lift which looks great and does the job of hiding the bits you don’t want to see. There is also a hut with a little mine cart for display at the bottom.

Moving up (lets call it the middle of the build), this is where I would say building gets close to that expert level. You build a really cute sand green hut on top of high stilts – these are notorious for falling apart and wrecking some part of the experience. This one however seemed to go in place easy and was instantly sturdy.

At the back of the middle building on stilts, you build the slope run for the balls once they exit the conveyor so they can drop down to the bottom. Not a difficult part as it is well placed slopes and a couple of flex pieces that are the whole make up for this.

At the top part there is a crane for decoration as if that is what is lifting the gold from the mine. Again you build it and install this on stilts too. Luckily this was also well designed and fitted easily.

Make no mistake about it, this build is full to the brim with details (pictures show it much better than words). Also it is tall! It comes in just shy of 50cm!!! For a build that is not much bigger than a 32×32 base plate in width and length it’s pretty tall! Did I mention it is tall?

The figs in this set work well for the theme, they are also well printed. Personally they do look a little child like for the set they are in. The set is very adult orientated for it’s complexity and display appeal. I think the Pantasy figs would work better in more of a play set. That being said, a marble run makes it both a great display piece and in a way an amazing playset.

Now for the scores:

  • Figures 8 out of 10
  • Instructions 8 out of 10
  • Display appeal 8 out of 10
  • Build experience is an 8 out of 10

I give this one a nice all round 8 out of 10. Although the build was fun and it really was a behemoth of a build it did feel a little cluttered with the mass of details. The marble run idea is epic but the balls do sometimes fly off randomly.

I really hope you have enjoyed this review, please be sure to check this one out it really was a massive and enjoyable set to build.

Massive thanks again to Pantasy for sending this to me to review. Please head over to the Pantasy website to buy yours today, use our affiliate code THEBRICKPOST during checkout to get 10% off.
