The first LumiBricks branded set is here and it’s an awesome build to kick off the name change and really put this alternative brand on the map!
We’ve had the honour of working with FunWhole/LumiBricks for the last couple of years and must say they have come along way. From their humble beginnings of stickered sets and basic lighting, to fully printed parts and stunning illuminated set pieces. The builds we’ve been gifted have all been to a high standard, the very first one was the Wood Cabin from 2022, it was great but when compared to this new Bamboo House set, there are obvious improvements, this doesn’t mean older sets aren’t worth it, far from it, they are definitely worthy of being picked up when you can.

Today’s review is the LumiBricks, so without further ado, here’s our review.

The Box:
As always with LumiBricks, the packaging has that premium feel to it, strong, sturdy and a great design. Inside though is where the magic is, with the two instruction manuals, numbered bags and the all important bright orange light box.
There is also a bag full of plates, these are used for the base and floors for the upper levels. It’s important to mention the instruction manuals as they are a big part of the set and build process. As always they are exceptional and really detailed, at no point was I confused or lost, each page and step is laid out perfectly. Split into two booklets, it paces the set out nicely and you feel like you’ve accomplished a lot after every bag. They also show you exactly where the LEDs and cables go, which direction the specialist bricks face and so on, making installation a breeze.
Inside the Light Box are 2 bags filled with the LEDs and cables, a battery pack, small screwdriver and tweezers. Again you’ll be shown how to test and use them throughout the instruction manuals.

The Build:
Starting off any Modular build, you lay a base plate down, here though we have several plates including curved ones to create that flowing look of the finished product.
Laying plates, tiles and other parts, the first few bags construct the pond, rocky edges and the Bamboo House decking. The tranquil pond looks absolutely stunning and has a handful of printed parts on it, lily pads, fish and leaves floating in the surface. Combine that with the rocks, bamboo and the decking and you have a very eye-pleasing set of complimentary colours and features.
The Bamboo plants themselves are made at the end of pretty much every bag and vary between two shades of green, light and dark. They are perhaps the most fiddliest parts of the build, although the set is named after them, these are very repetitive and a section of the build I dreaded.

Moving onto the first floor and above, you’ll see the Bamboo House looks great and is starting to take shape. A sloped roof with the odd lead on them, the balcony and the roof itself, is a fun part of the build process. You attach the side flaps and once the floor is in place you simply angle them down, to create an aesthetically pleasing slope, one you see on many Japanese buildings.
More walls are built and added to the floor, including a nice cosy balcony area, perfect for retreating too and getting some fresh air. Using the light nougat coloured pieces it ties in with the ground floor effortlessly. More lights are introduced and of course the roof itself, which is made up of more sloped parts and a frilly edge.

Moving onto the last few stages of the hold now and the final shape and product really comes together, especially when adding the wrap-around Bamboo and rockery. Combine that with the lovely leafy prints on the roof and dotted around, the pond elements such as the fish and lily pads, the autumnal leaves scattered on the floor, the rocky parts that give it that natural look, and you have a cracking set that any brick builder will enjoy.
It still takes my breath away whenever I glance at it, sitting there all pretty, still and content. It truly is a LumiBricks set and the team have kicked off the new brand name in style. Turn the lights on and boom, you have a cosy retreat for your Minifigures – speaking of lights…

The Lights:
LumiBricks are known for their lights and specialist bricks, they are part of every set and take it to the next level. So it deserves its own review section.
The photo below shows you just a handful of the light elements that come in the set. From cables and connectors to sockets and the LEDs themselves, it’s a nice mix of technology that is a breeze to install, thanks to the specialist cable-hiding bricks and plates. They are powered by a battery pack that takes 3 AA batteries, you can also connect it to a USB hub if you have more of them, it saves you time when switching everything on.
The instructions are very good for guiding you through the whole process, unlike other third party light kits where you need to dismantle half the set to install a single LED, here you install as you build, making it absolutely painless and very straightforward. LumiBricks are onto a winning combination here and long may it continue.

Final Thoughts:
Overall the set looks absolutely gorgeous, with the cosy Japanese building, the sloped roof, lily pond, rockery and of course the bamboo. No part of the process was tricky, nothing really stood out as being difficult or tedious, well the bamboo building did start to become repetitive but nothing to write home about. All-in-all another superb set by the brand that rivals the leading one, LumiBricks.
If you are looking for a relaxing build that portrays a relaxing setting, this set is perfect for you. It’s an awesome build and looks just as stunning on display!
