Brick McBricksworth here with a LumiBricks review, this time I bring you latest Steampunk set – Time Rift Library!
My thanks firstly to LumiBricks for sending this set over for me to review for The Brick Post, it’s truly appreciated. This new product from LumiBricks (previously FunWhole) is an expansion to the SteamPunk theme and is personally my first set in this series, so I am very excited to share this review with you.
The set is number 11012 and consists of whopping 3,187 pieces. As always with LumiBricks sets there are lights as standard, thisales the retail price extremely favourable. You can save yourself 10% by using our code THEBRICKPOST during checkout at LumiBricks.com.

We start the review with the instructions, which is a very important subject. They are clear and precise, they even show how big the tile and plate pieces are required for each section, for instance in the parts key at the top of each page (helpful if some sizes look similar).
As you may know LumiBricks pride themselves on being the pioneers for their sets having light kits that come as part of the build process of the set. They have even created pieces that help hide wires really well and make it so the pieces properly fit together. When you buy an aftermarket light kit for an alternative brand to LumiBricks this process does compromise the structure. The lights are easy to install and the instructions are very clear and helpful when needing to know where the wires go etc.

This set begins with the foundations and there is a lot of initial tile work here. Personally I always like this type of process because it comes together quickly and you are able to see the footprint of the build very easy on. For the first few bags you are building the shell of the library so there isn’t much detail just yet. Not a problem though as you build the structure and it seems to be rigid before it gets fiddly. (The best way round in my opinion).

There is a quite sizeable amount of printed pieces in this set and they really looks great. I particularly like the pages in the flying book and the printing on the main doors – The prints are crisp and clean looking. There are also some nice techniques on display in this set where there is a nice but easy to build array of gears for moving play features.

The overall gist of the set is a Steampunk library that seems like it is haunted or just out of control because someone has been messing in the time machine (There is a small build of a time machine that hides in the top of the building). There is also a little story in the instructions before you build. This itself already gets your imagination going and is also a nice touch.

The figures are nice and work well with the set. The prints and style is not what I would say is a figure I would personally go for but as this is a Steampunk set they work for the theme. The one fig I really do like is the green transparent ghost looking character. This one is really well done and looks amazing!

The whole build process was a pure joy to build, tt had barely any repetition and seemed to flow really well. I would go as far as to say this one is an exquisite build!
The parts choice and colour combinations work really well and it would easily fit nicely in to any City set up. If you wanted to make it less crazy this would be easily done by just taking the flying books off their clip pieces.
The build right up until the last bag looks like it will be an open back build but in the last bag you build the rear wall so it is fully modular, I am pleased to say. With a small pin and axel release you can easily pull out the back of the set (which disconnects some of the lights rater cleverly). This also allows for play inside the build.

Now for the scores:
- Figures get a solid 9.5 out of 10
- Playability 10 out of 10
- Display appeal 10 out of 10
- Build experience is a 11 out of 10
This is a first for myself, I am awarding this set 10 out of 10. I honestly couldn’t fault a thong. The build is spectacular, the choices in colours and figs is spot on, and the printed parts are brilliant!
I really hope you have enjoyed this review, please be sure to check this one out it really was a stupendous set to build. Massive thanks again to LumiBricks for sending this to me to review.
