We love Minifigures here at The Brick Post and when Andy from Minifigure Monarchs reached out about his new book, we jumped at the chance to take a closer look and share our thoughts on it!

Being British myself I find this to be a fascinating subject to cover, the Monarchy is a staple of our history and for it to be presented in Minifigure form is one I’m very interested in. After an extremely successful Kickstarter campaign, the book is available now in hardback, complete with gold accents and a whopping 336 pages. Inside you’ll find 200 detailed and charming scenes, painstakingly recreated with little bricks and custom LEGO Minifigures – including Henry VIII, one that stands out to me the most, seeing him portrayed in LEGO is both stunning and fun, it’s a Minifigure I never knew I needed.

The book itself is full of Minifigures and bricks that tell the story of the English and British Monarchy and their history of the past 1200 years. Featuring Kings and Queens of England but with a brick twist, including The Anglo-Saxon and Norse Kings, The Normans, The Angevins, The Plantagenets, The House of Lancaster and York, The Tudors, The Stuarts, The Hanover Ian’s, and The Windsor.

I’ve had the book for a few weeks now, I don’t usually take this long to get a review out, but I’ll be honest and say I can’t put it down! It’s such an interesting read and done in an incredibly engaging way, loving LEGO and Minifigures makes it that much sweeter, even if you don’t, it’s still and amazing book and worth having in the collection – it looks awesome sat on a coffee table too, a cool conversation starter for sure.

I won’t dive too deep into each section or page as it will show off too much and spoil the book for yourself. Instead I’ll show you the layout, a handful of the impressive photos found throughout and my final thoughts, which by now you should know how I feel about it.

The book starts off with a few acknowledgments and a brief introduction, highlighting what you’ll find within, when each Monarchy started and ended and so much more in between. It kicks off with Part 1, the Anglo-Saxon and Norse Kings, who ruled England at the time, c. 410 – 1066 Ad. A family tree style image is shown after the introductory paragraph, this shows who reigned and when, along with their Son & Daughters. These are represented as Minifigures, each one it’s recreated from LEGO parts in a highly detailed way. I would say each one is instantly recognisable, but that would be wrong, I wouldn’t have a clue what the real-life King’s and Queen’s of Britain looked like, but thanks to these Minifigures it gives me an idea.

Jumping to the middle of the book you’ll find LEGO Minifigure reenactments of battles and wars – The ones pictured above are The Battle Of The Boyne (1690) and Yorktown (1781). The details and historical information laid out is both educational and interesting, again with the custom LEGO scenes being setup meticulously and crammed full of action, it really sets the imagination wandering.

Britain has a vast history of Kings, Queens, Battles, Wars, and all the things in between. Most of the above is covered in this book and more but in a fun and educational way. I took History in secondary school, but learnt way more here then I ever did, maybe the inclusion of LEGO helped – who am I kidding, of course the inclusion of LEGO helped, it’s my jam man!

As I mentioned at the start, Henry VIII is one ofy all favourites, I don’t know why, maybe it’s because he is depicted a lot in TV and film, or that is enjoyed his food. Obviously there is a while section dedicated to him and his six wives, who also got the LEGO Minifigure treaent. The photo accompanying them both are extremely well done, the King having his portrait done in a lavish room filled with colour and light, the same setup used for the six wives, each stood in order with their names and reigns shown. I really wish I had a Minifigure of Henry VIII, it would talk pride of place in my collection.

The book goes right up to present day too, with The House Of Windsor, and the manybers of it. From Edward VII to Prince William and the future hiers to the thrown.

Its such an in-depth and fascinating book, I just can’t put it down. It feels good in the hand and has a premium weight to it, the gold embellishments add a certain luxury to it, a real collectors piece.

As I said before I would rather not go to much into it and let you see for yourself. Grab your copy directly from MinifigureMonarchs.com – use the code BRICKPOST20 and save yourself 20% off the RRP!
