Ice Cream, it’s perhaps the most FAB-ulous treat ever made and enjoyed by many, especially when on holiday. So when LumiBricks (FunWhole) revealed and released a set based on the tasty confectionery, it was a must get!

There is nothing VANILLA about this set, the floors can be removed in true modular style, but that is not all it brings to the table, you can also open it up to FEAST on the goodness it has to offer inside, including the Gelato Store, Tea Room and more. So don’t be a NOBBLY-BOBBLY, continue reading our review.

The Box & Contents:

They may have changed their name recently, but LumiBricks boxes haven’t changed, well the logo has obviously. They are still the premium, well designed, boxes we know and love and showcase the set in question front & centre. On the reverse is a load of text and a lineup photo of this set with others, just to give you an idea of what it’ll look like alongside other modulars in the Town Life range. ZOOM in and take a better look at our photos.

Inside the box you’ll find a series of numbered bags, two instruction manuals, an F and S bag, baseplates and of course the now infamous bright orange Light Kit box. All of this is very neatly presented and contained in the box, there isn’t any unnecessary space left over like some brands. I for one appreciate a tidy box.

The Build:

The Build starts off like any other, the base. It’s a good place to begin as a sturdy foundation is key, especially with what we are about to build. The removable floors, flappy walls and, oh yes, the whole building can be opened up, just like a dolls house.

It’s evident that this set is different from the get-go, first off the front pathway is completely missing until the last bag. This is necessary as you get a choice on how you want to display it, as a standard building or opened up in a street-style parade. I went for the way it’s shown on the front of the box, as eventually it will placed into Gregsville, my City.

I won’t go to much into the building process of each bag, but instead I’ll tell you about what each floor is and has. Kicking things off we’ll syart with the Gelato Store itself, with its many treats on offer and extensive selection of ice-cream flavours, four to be exact. As kids and adults will know, it isn’t a Gelato Store unless it has the traditional glass counter to gawp at all the delicious flavours. MINT CHOC-CHIP, PISTACHIO, CARAMEL, TOFFEE, VANILLA, BUTTERSCOTCH and my personal favorite, COFFEE.

The printed pieces are in abundance here and look especially gorgeous, ‘Artisan Gelato Studio‘ is the name of the store and looks great in handwritten style, combine that what the pale shades of lavender and blue and you have the perfect accent colours. Other printed elements are present and again look stunning, it’s nice to see a brand produce only printed parts and not use stickers – it adds to the overall premium feel.

As the build comes to an end, you see the Gelato Store in all it’s glory, the shop front, side stairs, Ice cream sign and roof garden. Thee is a lot to find and see with little nooks here & there, understair cupboard, kitchen area and so much more, even if you’ve built it you’ll still be finding things you’ve missed. Again the Ice Cream counter is perhaps my favorite part of the set, it can also be slid out to get a beeter look at it or to setup shots. With its curved transparent top, the cones and ice cream dished sat on top, and just the overall look and feel of the Gelato Store, it’s perfect.

Walk up the side stairs to the Tea Room and you’ll see a cute little ‘Open‘ sign, open the door and walk it, find a seat and enjoy yoa relaxing cuppa. The roof garden is a nice spot to visit also, filled with flowers, a brick-built shelter and lovely views – a proper chilled place to go. The colour scheme of the buildong itself is nice too, a NEAPOLITAN of a dark blue ground floor, a beige first floor and slighty darker roof section, it really is an odd pairing, but it works and looks different to other buildings!

The Lights:

The Lights are where it’s at though, it brings what you’ve built to life, especially at night. There are a couple of LEDs that represent porch lights, two indoor ceiling lights that pump out a soft glow and of course LEDs dotted around other places to give life to the unseen areas.

Included in the bright orange box are several LEDs, cables, sockets, connectors and a battery pack. Below are a selection of parts from bags 1 & 2 of the light kit, each used throughout the entire build process and NOT installed all at once or once the sets finished. That’s what sets LumiBricks apart from the others, the lights are fitted as you build and using the specialist bricks and pieces designed to hide and accommodate the cables.

Is this LumiBricks MAGNUM opus? I’d like to think it’s close to perfection, but with the option to display it in two different ways it makes some areas of the build feel a little flimsy and if you aren’t careful will fall apart and constant rebuilding of small sections repetitive. Thays being said the set overall is worth it and definitely up there as one of my top 5 LumiBricks builds. It’s a quaint little set that offers so much fun for its size, it will also slot into City perfectly along the beach front, serving the Minifigures delicious Ice Cream and treats.

You may think this set will cost you HUNDREDS AND THOUSANDS, but you’ll be surprised that it comes in at around £75/$100, which is pretty tasty in my book.
