Since the BrickBoy Kickstarter campaign started, just eight days ago, the talented and dedicated team behind it have released a major update that fans will love!
Top of the request list was being able to read gamepak cartridges, the original format in which us retro gamers grew up on. In today’s update they explain “with the external Cartridge Reader, you can connect your Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance cartridges and play them directly on your BrickBoy – It’s an external reader you connect to your BrickBoy with a simple cable – plug & play, automatically recognized and managed by BrickBoy’s software – after the first connection, your game stays cached, so you don’t need to keep the reader attached.”
This enables the BrickBoy kit, which ever one you decide to back, to keep it’s simple yet elegant design, it’s a clever way to bring your cartridges back to life without disrupting the amazing system already in place.
Also in the update is a much needed add-ons restock, the Premium Carry Case – keep your BrickBoy safe and dust-free, whether on display or on the go. The USB Power Supply + Cable – to safely charge the lithium batteries of your BrickBoy Gamer Kit. Last but not least, the MicroSD → USB Adapter – needed to load games and updates on the Essential Kit, or if you prefer USB transfers over wireless on Gamer/Collector. Grab these whilst you can before the sell out again.
Due to the overwhelming success, in the first week the campaign reached €350,000, this unlocked two stretch goals which comprises of a Custom Boot Animation + Retro Startup Chime and the Pro Controls Pack. The next goal, €400,000, will unlock yet more awesome modes and features, including Wireless Multiplayer Mode for Gamer & Collector Kits – two BrickBoys connecting locally, no cables, just fun.
