The LEGO Game Boy (72046) will soon get an upgrade, as Swiss LEGO fans set to launch a Kickstarter campaign next week!
Dubbed the BrickBoy, the upcoming kit will transform your LEGO Game Boy (72046) set into a playable handheld console just like it’s real-life predecessor – taking your display piece to the next level, literally. The Kickstarter campaign will launch next week, Tuesday 28th October, and come in three editions, Essential, Gamer, and Collectors. The BrickBoy team have working prototypes and have showcased them over on their social media channels, we have one coming for testing and review purposes, so watch this space for our in-depth look at the device.

The upgrade doesn’t work like you’ll remember, no physical cartridges are needed, instead the creators have included an emulator. The hardware and software side of things handles the gaming side of things running Game Boy ROMs. Sadly no other details have been disclosed as to what exactly runs it, for a non-techie like me I don’t need to know, just enjoy the beauty of it and the games.
Also not mentioned, yet, are the Kickstarter price brackets, but we’ve been told they’ll start from around €100 and climb from there, depending on which edition you back. The three editions will vary from basic gameplay, to Bluetooth connectivity, and a built it rechargeable battery. Read mroe about the tiers below.

- Essential Kit: The entry point for those who want to make their LEGO® Game Boy playable at the lowest cost, keeping things simple and fun.
- Gamer Kit: For those who want the full experience, with features like accelerated gameplay, customizable backlight, Bluetooth audio, and wireless updates.
- Collector’s Edition: The most complete and prestigious version designed to display and play, featuring Exposition Mode and a power supply for always-on display.
Please note: the LEGO® Game Boy set is not included in any of the rewards. BrickBoy is an upgrade kit designed to bring your LEGO® set to life.
The BrickBoy campaign will be the first of its kind to hit Kickstarter and we wish the team the greatest of success. Please head over to Kickstarter and sign-up for notifications on launch, and watch this space for our review.
