I don’t usually buy LEGO Ninjago sets let alone magazines but when an interesting Minifigure or element is included I may be swayed enough to grab either. Although I have picked up one or two LEGO Ninjago issues this is indeed the first in a long time.

The latest issue (74) of the LEGO Ninjago Magazine is out and it comes with a rather cool yet sinister looking Minifigure, Skull Sorcerer!

I won’t lie and state that I don’t know a lot about LEGO Ninjago and the various TV shows and Movie so please bear with me.

The Magazine:

I didn’t expect this line of magazines to be any different content wise to others and I wasn’t disappointed. There are plenty of puzzles, activities and comic stories to keep you occupied.

One of the first puzzles is a three parter and requires you to free the Skull Sorcerer from the darkness. Level 1 you need to follow a predetermined path in the form of coloured lines, level 2 you move onto finding the correct rope to escape in, then the final level you’ll need to construct the matching shape and drop it on the corresponding outline on the page. My young Son had fun freeing the Skull Sorcerer and completing the three stages.

The other activities are a collection of mazes, wordsearches, and mini games. These are great fun for younger fans and get them more involved in the LEGO word and introduce them to more characters and themes.

The comic story features Wu, Misako, and Clutch Powers, and sees them deep in the Jungle on the search for an ancient tribe. Will they find what they’re looking for or will it all end in tears? Find out for yourselves in issue 74!

As usual the Magazine picks a random new set from the theme in question and tells us a little about it. I must admit that these catamaran style boats do look rather good and would be a nice addition to anyone’s Ninjago collection. The colours and sails look really smart, I wonder if the boats float or not.

Within the centre pages is a double sided poster, one side is Kai and the other is some tribes people. Both posters look pretty good and the art is fantastic, I’m really interested in the tribes people Minifigures and may end up coming a few, their headdresses and parts look cool, perfect for MOCs.

The Freebie:

Again as mentioned above I don’t really have any idea who this Minifigure is supposed to me, the name on the packet is Skull Sorcerer, but he has a face similar to Garmadon.

Unfortunately this isn’t an exclusive Minifigure as it has been in two other sets, Skull Sorcerer’s Dungeons and Skull Sorcerer’s Dragons, albeit with a pair of wings in both instances.

I was drawn to this mainly for the mask and headpiece combo as I’ve never seen it before and thought it would make a great addition to my Minifigure collection and spares, again it’s perfect for MOCs.

Even though he’s a ‘baddie’ the colours really pop with the different shades of green. The printing and design of the graphics is amazing and looks awesome on this type of character.

The Mask and hat piece, which is moulded together, is a really cool piece to have and looks scary and ominous. I’m not sure what MOC I could use it in but you never know when a piece like that will come in handy.

He wouldn’t be a ‘baddie’ if he didn’t have a staff of some kind and here he has a matching green flame mounted on a stick. It’s a simple design but it works and looks the part.

Next issue:

For a sneak peek at next issues freebie take a look below, it’s another Minifigure…

Conclusion:

Overall the Magazine is full of activities and a fun comic story, the characters within match their LEGO, TV, and film counterparts.

There is plenty for the younger fans to get stuck into and be entertained by.

The Freebie Minifigure, Skull Sorcerer, is really well done and to a high standard. The printing and colours are amazing!
