LEGO Lord of the Rings is a hugely popular theme, although the sets are far and few between, they often sell out quickly and cost an arm and a leg. There is a cheaper way to enter the world of Tolkien, alternative LEGO builds!
The talented fan designer Terauma is back with an awesome alt build of a relatively affordable set, the LEGO Love Birds (21365). The build takes the parts found in the above set and transforms them into Treebeard, a tree-giant character in J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. He is an Ent and is said by Gandalf to be “the oldest living thing that still walks beneath the Sun upon this Middle-earth.” He lives in the ancient Forest of Fangorn, where he awakens once again to aid the Fellowship of the Ring.

The 25cm tall build is the perfect scale for Minifigures (not included), without having to find decent shelf space to display it. It recreates Treebeard perfectly, with facial details, his leafy beard, long arms, and overall tree-like features. Many fans will want to grab the reasonably priced Love Birds (21365) set and build this alternative, I know I do. Terauma has done a wonderful job in designing and building the movie version of this iconic character. Sure, there have been many alt builds and MOCs of Treebeard, but for under £45 you can’t go wrong – it’s the Minifigures you only have to worry about!
The alternative design can be found on Rebrickable, where you’ll also find the instructions which cost just $7.99, a great price for a great alternative set. The LEGO Love Birds (21365) will cost you £44.99. Please follow, like and comment on the creators post to show your support, Thank you. Happy Building!
