The latest design to gain the required 10,000 supporters at LEGO Ideas is inspired by the one and only Thomas The Tank Engine!
From the talented mind of LilyMakesThings, comes a brick-built recreation of the 80s talking train most AFOLs know. Thomas The Tank Engine has been loved for many decades by fans of all ages, I personally have fond memories of watching the talking train and his adventures with friends, infact I once had a nightmare he crashed and needed help.
For those that haven’t seen or heard of Thomas The Tank Engine, he is located on the imaginary island of Sodor, a place where every vehicle has its own characteristics, Thomas, a tank engine, and his friends face exciting adventures. The first two seasons were narrated by Ringo Starr, how epic is that?!

This year marks 40 years since the pilot aired for the TV series which brought Thomas to worldwide appeal. I believe that children and adults alike would be elated to build a Thomas of their own – LilyMakesThings
The idea looks amazing and one I would certainly pickup if made. The face 8s the main charm of Thomas and I think LilyMakesThings got it spot on in LEGO form. The wheels, train body, and carriages look good too, they even have faces on, just like the original show (see photos below). Put all these pieces together and you have the one and only Thomas The Tank Engine, in all his glory.
Unfortunately reaching the required goal of 10,000 supporters doesn’t guarantee it’ll be made into a real-life LEGO set, but there is hope for fans as the LEGO Ideas team will debate on and choose which sets will be lucky enough to make it through sometime next/this year – we wish LilyMakesThings the best of luck in the next stage.
