The latest design to make it through to the next LEGO Ideas review stage gives the cult classic movie, The Princess Bride, a LEGO brick makeover!

From the talented mind of Frogtopia, comes a brick-built recreation of the enchantingly cracked fairy tale. If you haven’t seen the 1987 movie it follows the beautiful Princess Buttercup and the dashing Westley, who must overcome staggering odds to find happiness amid six-fingered swordsmen, murderous princes, Sicilians and rodents of unusual size. But even death can’t stop these true lovebirds from triumphing.

The idea is all set inside a book, on the front of which are the title ‘The Princess Bride‘, surrounded by a tree, a picnic with two glasses and more foliage. Open it up and you’ll find the Princess and Westley together at last, along with the words ‘As You Wish‘. Turn the book around and there is a rocky cliff, in which Westley must climb in the movie. Several Minifigure characters are included, Vizzini, Fezzik, Inigo Montoya, Westley, Princess Buttercup, and the Grandfather & Grandson reading the book.

Thanks to its incredible following, the idea recently gained the required 10,000 supporters and earned its place in the next review stage, happening sometime this year.

Thanks to encouragement and support from the community, I’ve decided to resubmit my Princess Bride build–especially since the film turns forty soon! – Frogtopia

Frogtopia has done a wonderful job in capturing the essence of the characters, the book build, and the multiple display options. The book can be divided into two scenes – a nod to its origin as a novel and the narrative framing of the movie itself – and opened to reveal the brick-built calligraphy and a landscape Buttercup and Westley can be placed into. Not only is it a display piece that can be shown off in a variety of ways, but it has plenty of play features within it.

Unfortunately reaching the required goal of 10,000 supporters doesn’t guarantee it’ll be made into a real-life LEGO set, but there is hope for fans as the LEGO Ideas team will debate on and choose which sets will be lucky enough to make it through sometime next year – we wish Frogtopia the best of luck in the next stage.
