The latest design to make it through to the next LEGO Ideas review stage is based on an American classic Christmas movie, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation!
From the talented mind of StephOCO, the idea is inspired by a cult classic movie that most older fans have seen at least once in their lives. If you haven’t seen it yet, it follows Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase), who wants to have a perfect family Christmas, so he pesters his wife, Ellen (Beverly D’Angelo), and children, as he tries to make sure everything is in line, including the tree and house decorations. However, things go awry quickly. His hick cousin, Eddie (Randy Quaid), and his family show up unplanned and start living in their camper on the Griswold property. Even worse, Clark’s employers renege on the holiday bonus he needs. It’s a great watch at this time of year and this design gaining the required 10,000 supporters is perfect, making it feel extra Christmassy and special.
Widely celebrated by audiences around the globe as the ultimate Christmas movie, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation has delighted fans for over 35 years. Blending heartwarming charm with unforgettable comedy, its timeless humor has made it a cherished holiday tradition for millions.
The build features a ton of pieces, two floors, an attic, and so much more. It’s filled with references and easter eggs from the movie and comes with the whole gang in Minifigure form. On the outside you can experience the chaos of Clark hanging the lights and falling off the roof, punching Santa, cutting down his backup tree, and adding to the ever-growing garbage pile. The inside sees Clark opening the tree with a resounding “Looks great, little full, lotta sap” the ominous doorbell announcing the in-laws’ arrival, Clark’s retractable ladder mishap, and the beloved attic scene – to name a few.
StephOCO has done a wonderful job in capturing the characters, the house, and the story telling behind it all. Fans of both the movie and LEGO would love to get their hands on this set if it were real. Unfortunately reaching the required goal of 10,000 supporters doesn’t guarantee it’ll be made into a real-life LEGO set, but there is hope for fans as the LEGO Ideas team will debate on and choose which sets will be lucky enough to make it through sometime next year – we wish StephOCO the best of luck in the next stage.

They did the Home Alone house, there’s no way they can pass this up! Hopefully they would keep all the details that are in those pictures, even if it was a little pricey.

Please please please Lego I’m begging you to make this a thing! You’ve already done a Home Alone house, why not capture the best Christmas movie ever. If you don’t think sales will be good ask Hallmark how their annual Christmas vacation ornaments sell, (hint, well enough they do new ones every year)!

This is my favorite movie! I would buy it and have my grandkids help assemble. Give us quality time together and keep their faces out of the screen.

My entire family love Christmas Vacation. We collected the annual Ornaments that were released each year from Hallmark but were disappointed when Every year only (1) Chevy Chase (aka: Clark Griswal) was on every ornament with no other characters, so we finally stopped a few years ago. (We would love to see the whole family!) We love the idea of a Christmas Vacation set! However, we don’t have a place to show them. Also, (2) large Lego sets take up so much room to show & are difficult to store. (Saran Wrap seems to help the most but pieces or even chunks will still come apart. (3) The prices are so high, especially on the big pieces. I think that I’d prefer some smaller vignettes that would immediately bring on laughter: 🦃 The family around the dinner table w/ the dry turkey, Aunt Bethany saying the pledge 🇺🇸 when asked to say “Grace.” 🩱(red) Clark at the window dreaming of his pool when his niece comes in. Etc. Christmas Orn w/ the same moments would also be great, each main character highlighted each year… Cousin Eddy w/ Snots or draining his toilet into the city’s street drainage. Endless possibilities… or even the explosion at the end w/ Aunt B singing the National Anthem! 🤭😂 The bottom line is YES!
I watch the movie a few times every Christmas and I would definitely buy a couple of these and I would hope that he would build more of Christmas Vacation to!!

Lego, Please Please make this set happen. Christmas Vacation is my favorite holiday movie and I would definitely buy this set. It would displayed in my home where everyone who comes over can see it and enjoy it. That’s what Legos are all about.

You bet I’d buy this, and twelve others at a Christmas party yesterday who saw this said they would too! if it is this detailed it will be worth the asking price if not too crazy ($399 USD *max*). I understand license fees have to go into these movie themed sets.
I love the movie watch it every chance I get and I have been hoping for a long time that lego would make this. I was putting together the hone alone house last year I told my wife I would love it if lego would make the christmas vacation house with the cousin eddie and the RV since then. My wife says the same.
