Set sail and build Melville’s Moby Brick alternative LEGO set by Vanestream!

Take one seemingly standard set, LEGO Hedwig at 4 Privet Drive (76425), and transform it into your ‘white whale set’, literally. Using just the pieces found in the Harry Potter set, you could build a rather cool Mody Dick inspired sculpture that will be many a conversation starter when guests are round.

Moby-Dick; or, The Whale, is an 1851 epic novel by American writer Herman Melville. The book centres on the sailor Ishmael’s narrative of the maniacal quest of Ahab, captain of the whaling ship Pequod, for vengeance against Moby Dick, the giant white sperm whale that bit off his leg on the ship’s previous voyage.

The talented designer, Vanestream, has taken the novel and created a work of art for the LEGO parts found in the Harry Potter set, and to great effect I should add. The model includes a giant whale underneath a ship, ready to capsize it. The overall design is stunning and being made of LEGO is more impressive, the creator has done a great job in recreating the shape of the whale, with its tail used as a platform to keep it sturdy, I particularly like the way the ship is styled and balanced on top of the whole sculpture.

Using only pieces from LEGO 76425 Hedwig at 4 Privet Drive, this model brings to life the contrast between the fragile ship and the immense whale, capturing the tension at the heart of the story: man versus nature, obsession versus fate.

The alternative design can be found on their Rebrickable account, where you’ll also find the instructions which cost a very affordable €2.80. The original LEGO Hedwig at 4 Privet Drive (76425) set will cost you just £17.99, a great price for a great set. Please like and comment on the creators post to show your support, Thank you. Happy Building!
