This week’s LEGO Ideas feature is brought to you by Lem.Designs, who has recreated the iconic Homer Simpson backing into the hedge meme in brick form!

It’s a meme pretty much everyone around the world has seen and even used as a gif, I know I have used it countless times to signify leaving a room or an awkward situation. It comes in handy far too often and it’s one of my most used memes/gifs. The Simpsons episode where it originated from is “Homer Loves Flanders“, season 8. It is later replicated by Bart Simpson who says “I’ve seen my Dad do this before” then proceeds to disappear into the hedge.

After Flanders declines his invitation, Homer wordlessly retreats back into the hedge in the same fashion.

Lem.Designs has done an awesome job in recreating this entirely from bricks, the frame, greenery and Homer Simpson himself all look spot on. It’s designed in a way that would sit perfectly on a shelf amongst your display, it can even be wall mounted too, perfect.

The hedge itself is layer with green plates, leaves, tiles and more to give it that 3D look and to create depth when layered over Homer’s body. The effect Lem.Designs has created is great and I personally would love to have own this set, perhaps LEGO could issue it under their ART theme.

This design is meant to be a piece of striking 3D LEGO artwork, either standing upright on its base or mounted on a wall.

When it comes to Homer himself, again the design is spot on for a brick recreation. The bald head, emotionless eyes, mouth, belly and leg slightly poking out, it’s perfectly done and you instantly know who it is. Sadly there aren’t any moving elements but that’s fine, it works way better as a piece of modern art.

The set overall is great fun and one I’d purchase if given the chance. Come on LEGO, this needs to be produced! We would like to wish Lem.Designs the best of luck in promoting and gaining the required 10k supporters needed to get this product idea to the next stage.
