One of the latest designs to gain the required 10,000 supporters at LEGO Ideas is the Chinese Cork Carving Art by GenericBrix!
This build is heavily inspired by real traditional Chinese cork carving dioramas. It transfers to LEGO bricks extremely well as GenericBrix has proven here. If the name rings a bell to you then well done, the creator has a few other sets in the running to become LEGO Ideas sets.
This build focuses on something very different to what the creator has done previously, these works of art in Chinese history are truly a sight to behold. The real-life cork carvings are masterpieces, and can be enjoyed from many angles, the way light bounces off them is beautiful. The many nooks and crannies that the hand crafted dioramas poses have many hidden details inside. This translates over to LEGO very well with the many shapes, bricks, and pieces at hand to create something elegant, functional and perfect for display.
I started this project a few months ago thinking it was going to be easy, I was wrong. Turns out adapting the colors of cork wood into the lego system was more challenging than I expected.

The idea looks great and one many fans would love to get their hands on, it’s the perfect display piece. I think the overall look is fantastic and brings something very different to the LEGO Ideas table. The creator has had to produce 14 re-colored parts, which is great news for MOCs builders and fans alike. It’s most certainly the perfect scale to be displayed on a desk or bookshelf, alongside other themed pieces of LEGO Art.
Unfortunately reaching the required goal of 10,000 supporters doesn’t guarantee it’ll be made into a real-life LEGO set, but there is hope for fans as the LEGO Ideas team will debate on and choose which sets will be lucky enough to make it through sometime next/this year – we wish GenericBrix the best of luck in the next stage.
