As we draw closer to a new year and new building block sets, I thought I’d try something a little different and announce my personal top ten sets of 2025!

Each year we host The Brick Post Minifigure Awards, to change things up a little we thought a run-down of sets we found most enjoyable, interesting, and totally awesome, would be a better fit and a better read. Don’t worry, a 2025 Minifigure will still be crowned, just in a different way, watch this space.

My top ten sets of 2025 will include entries from LEGO, LumiBricks, JMBricklayer and Pantasy – from 10 to 1, I’ll go through my choices giving a little reasoning behind why I chose that particular set and what it meant to me whilst building.

10. LEGO Disney Wall-E & EVE (43279)

Kicking the list off with a very strong set – This one meant a lot to me as watching the movie when it first released was incredible, seeing these characters and with them a whole new and original untold story from Disney. Missing out on the original LEGO Ideas Wall-E set also didn’t help, making this one was an absolute must for my personal collection.

9. Pantasy Sherlock Holmes Baker Street 221B Apartment

This set is more a ‘closer to home‘ entry, literally – being based on a British character, Sherlock Holmes has been around for many years, I remember reading books at school and later watching the many films. Based in London, which I’ve visited many times, I felt compelled to grab this set, build it, and place it with pride into my City, Gregsville.

8. LEGO Horizon Adventures Aloy & Varl (77037)

This super affordable set is based on a game inspired by another game, I know it’s confusing. The Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West games are amazing, which is why the LEGO  reimagining is so popular. For me this set brings us two robotic creatures and two awesome Minifigures from that world at a much more friendly price. Having played all three games and completing them, I feel a deeper connection to thus small but mighty set.

7. JMBricklayer Van Gogh Sunflowers (70004)

A rare entry from JMBricklayer now in the form of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. This was a total surprise to me and technically released earlier than 2025, but due to a re-release I’ve counted it in this year’s runnings. The set was a must get as at the time LEGO had just announced their version of the famous painting. JMBricklayer’s interpretation of this classic has been given a 3D touch and lights. For this set to make it into 7th place was all about the build and the interesting techniques used throughout, again being a total surprise, this set left a mark on me.

6. LEGO Minecraft The Crafting Table (21265)

By now you may see a theme unfolding, that of a Gaming nature. The Crafting Table is a staple in Minecraft and one of the very first things you build in the game. This LEGO representation encapsulates that and more, spin the set around and inside are the Biomes found in the game but microscale, how cool is that?! This set sits proudly in my Sons display, amongst his other LEGO Minecraft sets.

5. LumiBricks Toy Store (L9100)

This entry from LumiBricks is a must have for any City builder, it combines a modular design with bright and bold colours. It’s something completely different to anything currently on offer from any brand, and it’s a Toy Store! The build is fun and the details are vast, included in the set are smaller printed versions of past LumiBricks sets.

4. LEGO Ideas Gremlins: Gizmo (21361)

Although I received this set as a Christmas gift and yet to build it, I’ve placed it at no.4 as a good friend of mine (Mark @the.brickloft) has said how wonderful it is and a pure joy to build. This one also holds a nostalgic place in my heart, again it was a childhood movie I remember watching one Christmas. Being blown away by the fantasticall story, the puppets and of course the star of the film, Gizmo!

3. LumiBricks Art Gallery (L9085)

LumiBricks have most certainly priced themselves this year, with a ton of very impressive sets, including the magnify Art Gallery. This beast of a build is fun to put together, has a great colour scheme and looks epic. Filled with countless printed elements, details and of course lights, this is most definitely LumiBricks best set of the year, for me.

2. LEGO Game Boy (72046)

Coming in at no.2 is the LEGO Game Boy, which as most fans will know is an incredible set, both in looks and feel. Based on the iconic handheld console from the late 80s/early 90s, it again packs an enormous nostalgic punch. Just like the NES, it was my first venture into gaming of the handheld kind. I absolutely loved the whole build, from the console itself to the Game Paks which represent Super Mario Bros and Zelda.

1. LEGO Super Mario & Standard Kart (72037)

I remember this set as if I built it yesterday, from opening the box to adding the finishing touches to Mario himself, it was an epic build from start to finish. The set is full of nostalgia for me, as for a lot of fans, having been my first ever console growing up. The NES was my way into the gaming world and I’ve never looked back. Super Mario Bros was also my first ever real game, playing for hours on end just to see if I could complete each level faster than before.

When writing my review (really an appreciation post) I said “set of the year” and I was right. Nothing has come close to this one!
