The LEGO Up-scaled Minifigure (40649) set was the one that kicked off many fans obsession with large scale characters. Since it’s release mid 2023 there have been many more to collect, including a racing driver, pirate, baby astronaut, and most recently Santa.

The buildable Minifigure is based on one of the very first figures LEGO made (in the newer style), with a red top, blue legs and a matching blue hat. It looks great on its own but there was something missing, a display option. That’s where BrixBox comes in, they asked me if I’d like to try a couple of their cases, this one was a must have!

Here is how we got on and what we ultimately think of the BrixBox Up-scaled Minifigure (40649) case.

The case came fully boxed and packaged in sufficient bubble wrap to keep it safe during transit, which as pretty quick I must say. The website stated a lead time of a couple of weeks but it was shipped before that which was a nice surprise. The contents was neatly wrapped and presented, each of the cases they sent us had labels on and bundled separately, which I appreciated.

I disposed of the outer packaging, into the various recycling bins, laid out the case in its individual parts and grabbed the instruction sheet. As the case itself is so easy to put together, the instructions were done with rather quickly. The important thing to remember is to remove the thin plastic coating from each side of the acrylic, which I forgot and had to back track slightly, but we won’t dwell on that too much. From peeling off the protective film to the finished case, it was over in a flash. I was done in about 10 minutes. It’s a credit to the designers and the parts used, making for a simple build experience that comprised of mostly small screws and holding it stable. I’m the least handy person I know so you’ll be fine with this level of construction, I’ve build more difficult 4+ LEGO sets than this.

Although this isn’t my first rodeo, having prior knowledge helped with constructing the case, but like I say it’s very intuitive and straightforward. Starting with the sides and back panels, you carefully hold the panels together, two at a time to begin with then balance the other parts on top making for easier screwing. Attaching the corner cubes and screwing into them was a little fiddly, being 6’5″ I have big hands and sausage fingers, but I soon found my flow. Before I knew it most of the case was together, all that was left was to attach the backdrop. I went for the printed option, which has the Blueprint style background. The quality is top notch and the printing is crisp, definitely the icing on the case!

Once the backdrop is attached, the case is pretty much done, thanks to the small magnets on the base you simply pop the square windowed-piece on top and it snaps into place. Next you grab the Up-Scaled Minifigure and pop it onto the studs supplied, remove the accompanying Minifigure from under the blue hat and place it on the studs just in front of the larger figure. Lift and carefully place the case over the top and onto the grooves on the base and hey-presto, the BrixBox case is complete.

The price is also very affordable compared to other brands. Starting off at just £35.99, you can kit out your LEGO Up-scaled Minifigure (40649) set in style. The printed backdrop is a little more but still at £42.99 it’s totally worth it and gives the set a new lease of life.

Thank you to BrixBox for gifting us this amazingly crafted and built product. It not only protects your prized LEGO sets but they also look awesome doing it. We pride ourselves on being honest in our reviews and I can honestly say this is a great display option for the Up-Scaled Minifigure set. There aren’t any negative points at all and that’s something to shout about. We love anything Minifigure related and this case will be put on display amongst our LEGO collection.
