The LEGO Halloween Hayride set maybe small but it packs a big punch!

Box art

I love these smaller, seasonal sets, as they usually have more of a fun tone about them with the Minifigures and setting. This one is based on the classic hayride you get at County fairs and Farms, but with a spooky Halloween twist.

Pop open the box and slide the contents out. You get two bags and quite a substantial sticker sheet for this size set.

Stickers

The bricks and pieces are a good mixture of new and old parts. We get nine 1×2 yellow bricks with grille, four 1×2 medium grey masonry bricks, a handful of SNOT elements, and a few plates in my favourite LEGO colour sand green!

Bits & pieces

Included in the set are three Minifigures, an Adult, a Child, and a Skeleton. The two builds are a rundown Tractor with trailer, and an entrance/archway.

Being a big Minifigure collector the male figure costuming as a Mummy really caught my attention. I really like the print on the torso and head, the addition of the moustache and raised eyebrow adds to the fun yet quirky character.

The young girl figure sports a cool skeleton hoodie and short dark green legs, sadly the legs aren’t posable. Again her expression says it all and she’s having a great time at the farm for Halloween.

Minifigures

The Skeleton is purely for show and sits on display at the entrance to the farm/Hayride keeping the Hay company.

Skeleton Minifigure

Speaking of the Hay, well done LEGO for your use of something so simple! Using the 1×2 Brick with Grille in Yellow is so smart and works extremely well. Who knew I’d get so excited over Hay?!

Hey, cool Hay!

Constructing the entrance/archway was simple and straightforward. The design works well and stays standing up without any problems. There is a pumpkin on the opposite side to the Skeleton, just to even it out a little.

Sitting on top of the archway is a larger brick-built pumpkin which uses up one of the ten stickers.

Pumpkin and Bat

I’m always very impressed with LEGO, more specifically the design team, they know exactly how to create the perfect image for their stickers. I’ve tried many times to produce my own but can’t seem to get it right. The Pumpkin’s face is big and full of joy, seeing the children enjoying themselves on the Hayride.

We get one Bat piece which also sits on top of the archway. This is a nice addition to a small set and is very welcomed!

Tractor & trailer

Onto the main build now which is the Tractor and Trailer combo. As far as tractors go we haven’t got that many to choose from, so it’s great to get one in an almost rundown condition. Panels are missing and cobwebs & spiders can be seen crawling over the pipes. To get one in dark red is also a nice touch, although printed tiles would be better I understand that in a small set the cost needs to be kept down so stickers will suffice. The designed and good with amazing detail, with the inner workings showing.

Stickers

The trailer, which attaches onto the back of the tractor, looks really good and with the added wood-panel stickers giving it that little something extra!

The build process towards the end of the trailer build gets a tad fiddly when pushing the tiles onto the SNOT pieces, there isn’t much to push against. More Hay is added but this time it’s used as seating.

Overall these smaller seasonal sets are great and can add a lot to existing builds in your collection or City. The two Minifigures look great and the design/printing is superb. Having a tractor & trailer combo is nice to have and in the dark red colour it definitely makes a nice change!
